About Dia Beacon:
Dia Beacon’s expansive spaces are well suited to the needs of large-scale installations, paintings, and sculptures. In keeping with Dia’s history of single-artist, site-related presentations, each gallery was designed specifically for the art it contains. This includes Andy Warhol’s 1978–79 multipart work Shadows, displayed in a single installation measuring approximately 350 linear feet; selections from Dan Flavin’s series of fluorescent light Monuments to V. Tatlin . Richard Serra’s monumental steel sculptures, Torqued Ellipses; and Michael Heizer’s North, East, South, West (1967/2002). The ideal viewing conditions created by reflected north light from more than 34,000 square feet (3,200 m2) of skylights are especially evident in the galleries devoted to the paintings of On Kawara, Agnes Martin, Blinky Palermo, and Robert Ryman.
About The Corn Festival
The corn is ripe, sweet, and ready! The Beacon Sloop Club’s Annual Corn Festival is at Pete and Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park along the shores of the Hudson River.
Featured is fresh-picked, sweet Hudson Valley corn, boiled and served with your choice of butter and special toppings. In addition, treats such as chilled watermelon and ice cold fresh squeezed lemonade will be available to quench your thirst on this August day.
Two solar powered music stages will provide live music throughout the day. Numerous food and craft vendors will be on hand. Environmental non-profits will feature displays of local river history and the environment including information about their organization.
The Beacon Sloop Club’s boat, the Woody Guthrie, will be taking guests on free sails from the Beacon Harbor, weather permitting. The public may sign up for an afternoon sail to relax and experience the beauty, power and grandeur of the Hudson. Sign up at the Beacon Sloop Club table starting at noon.
