The George Washington Bridge is the world’s busiest motor vehicle bridge carrying over 103 million cars and trucks each year.  It was complete in 1931 and connects Manhattan’s Washington Heights to Ft Lee NJ.  Walking across the bridge on the pedestrian walkway offers amazing views of the NYC skyline as well as the Palisades Cliffs.  Join NYSN founder Dave Cervini for a trip through time and over the bridge. Along the way you will learn the history of the bridge and the area plus see amazing photo’s of it being constructed.  The group will stop on the Jersey side in Ft Lee Historic Park to eat lunch overlooking the river and NYC.

What to expect:

  • The group will meet at the George Washington Bridge Bus Station at 11am.
  • We will walk across the bridge (bridge is just under 1 mile)
  • On the Jersey side we will walk to Palisades Ft Lee Historic Park to enjoy lunch (bring your own)
  • After lunch we will walk back to Manhattan.  For those wishing to explore more we will walk down to The Little Red Lighthouse under the bridge made famous in the children’s book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Grey Bridge.

The main part of the walk/hike is fairly flat and all on pavement.  If you wish to go down to the lighthouse there are several flights of stairs to go down.
