PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL FOLLOW COVID-19 GUIDELINES FOR THIS TRIP.

The forecast is for several inches of snow in the Hudson Valley this week. Join us as we take an adventure through this beautiful winter wonderland with a fun group of members and friends.  A snowshoe is footwear for walking over the snow. Snowshoes work by distributing the weight of the person over a larger area so that the person’s foot does not sink completely into the snow, a quality called “flotation.” We have selected a pristine location for a winter hike that will take you to Awosting Falls at Lake Minnewaska.  This is an easy/mostly flat trail that offers amazing views through snow covered woods and a 188 foot mostly frozen waterfall.

How it works

Your day will begin with the spectacular trip along the Metro-North Railroad’s Hudson River Line to Poughkeepsie, NY (or you can drive and meet the group at the train station). We will pick the group up at 10:40am.

We will stop at the #1 pizzeria in the Hudson Valley (Rino’s of New Paltz) for a slice then head to the trail. (You may also bring your own food.)

After the snowshoeing we will stop at Bad Seed Hard Cidery for snacks and samples.

You will likely be on the 5:50pm train back home at the latest.

The Trail: Conditions permitting we will be on the Lake Minnewaska loop trail.  This is an easy trail that winds through the woods, around the lake and is all on carriage roads.

Difficulty level: 4 out of 10.  Beginners welcome but you should be able to hike through a 2-mile nature preserve.  The trails used will be determined by the conditions.

Cost:

General Members: $110 ($100 for VIP members) includes: Snowshoe rental, Hiking fees, guide fees, snacks at Hard Cidery and transportation from Poughkeepsie train station to all activities and back.

Not included: train fare, lunch, cider samples

What do I need to wear? snow boots or waterproof hiking boots, thermals, warm gloves, snow pants (optional).  It is going to be in the low thirties, please use you best judgement as to what is best for you.  You can always leave items in the van if you bring too much.

If you are driving there yourself, please contact dave@newyorksocialnetwork
