PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL FOLLOW COVID GUIDELINES FOR THIS TRIP. The forecast is for several inches of snow in the Hudson Valley this week. Join us as we take an adventure through this beautiful winter wonderland with a fun group of members and friends.  A snowshoe is footwear for walking over the snow. Snowshoes work by distributing the weight of the person over a larger area so that the person’s foot does not sink completely into the snow, a quality called “flotation”.  We have selected a pristine location for a winter hike that will take you through near a beautiful creek, through the woods and to a spot overlooking the Hudson River.

How it works

Your day will begin with the spectacular trip along the Metro North Railroad Hudson River Line to Poughkeepsie, NY (or you can drive and meet the group at the train station ). We will pick the group up at 10:40am.  The snow shoe location is 10 minutes from the train station.  Following the snow shoeing we will go to Bad Seed Hard Cidery for samples and pizza.

You will likely be on the 3:50pm train back (in time to be home for Superbowl!)

The Trail: Conditions permitting we will be on the Black Creek Preserve.  This is an easy trail that winds through the woods, over creeks and along the shore of the Hudson River.

Difficulty level: Beginners welcome but you should be able to hike through a 2 mile nature preserve. There are 2 inclines that would have the difficulty level of climbing 8 flights of stairs. The trails used will be determined by the conditions.

Cost:

General Members: $120 ($110 for VIP members) includes: Snow Shoe rental, Hiking fees, guide fees, pizza and snacks and transportation from Poughkeepsie train station to all activities and back.

Not included: train fare

What do I need to wear? snow boots or waterproof hiking boots, thermals, warm gloves, snow pants (optional).  It is going to be in the low thirties, please use you best judgement as to what is best for you.  You can always leave items in the van if you brought too much.
